Knowing that many visually impaired children can detect and respond to light, Philips Color Kinetics (PCK) is developing a device—named the LightAide— that uses arrays of colored LED lights to assess, engage and teach children who are blind/low vision. Working with teachers and therapists at The Perkins School for the Blind, TERC and PCK will begin testing the LightAide with participants in Perkins’ Infant Toddler Program. In a role as a consultant, TERC will identify how the software can be integrated into the curriculum, provide teacher supports and documentation, and research and report on the usability and potential benefits of the LightAide technology.
